In fact, this question gives you the perfect chance to start the conversation going, it invites all the best information you can present about yourself, pointing to your strengths and accomplishments, a little humor can really break the ice here, and remember – you have been asked to talk about yourself, this is a great question, begging for a great answer.
What Are Your Strengths as a candidate or applicant? This is one that a lot of college interviews have, and some people have a problem with it, taking it to the personal level – it looks like you are now under the knife. But honestly, these people only want to know that you are the right person, so attack this with your best qualities, try to have an example for each thing you say, and try to match your strong points with what you think are the requirements.
What Are Your Weaknesses? Obviously, no one likes to admit that they have any weaknesses, especially in front of a committee that is there to kick you out in the first sign of weakness. So what do you do? You can provide one trait about yourself that is the least important to the position. Refrain from canned responses such as you are a perfectionist or a workaholic.
Where Do You Want to Be Five or Ten Years From Now? This is a classic job interview question, but a lot of colleges ask that too. This is a question you want to look the interviewer in the eyes and be dead serious about what you are saying, no one will visit you in five years to check, but they will give you a lot of extra points for motivation and confidence.
What Have Been the Biggest Accomplishments so Far? Now this is just another way to ask you to say something about yourself, you need to choose a right answer here, this will require an answer with a real sense of story behind it – you had a great challenge, you thought how to solve it, and you did with great success, this can be a social problem you solved by “management” people, or an academic challenge that you faced and worked hard to get top marks for.
