What to put on for your college interview

Dressing for the college interview.

Dressing for your college interview is a serious matter, you need to make a strong positive impression in the few minutes you will spend with the interviewer, you will want to show them that you took the interview seriously enough, not only in research but by investing in the time and thought of choosing your clothes to match the occasion.

Dressing for success is something we all know something about, from out favorite shoes to a tie, we all know that some clothes makes you feel stronger, more confident and look more powerful. In this case, a college interview is the same as going to a job interview, you want to show a professional individual that is neat and clean, that is self conscience about looks and that is aware of the fact that being a part of a college will require him to fit in to certain codes. In some cases this doesn’t work, some colleges are very liberal and would say that they don’t care what you ware, but lets imagine the situation for a second, you walk into the room and discover that all the men have suites and ties and all the ladies are in dresses… you do not want to ware a sport jacket and a tee shirt.Dressing conservatively is the best option, unless you are interviewing for a fashion design program, dresses for women going to a college interview is nice, slacks and a blouse, similar to attire for a job interview, nice slacks and a blouse-possibly worn with a blazer-or a simple dress are recommended. Shoes should be low to medium heels. Do not wear very high heels, too-short skirts, or clothes that will make you uncomfortable.

Men should consider a suit, in case you think that this kind of college will have its interviewers in suits, or khaki pants with a collared shirt and matching tie or sweater. Nice pants with a shirt, jacket, and tie also a possibility. A turtleneck and sweater, or shirt and sweater are also acceptable and fitting a college interview. Jeans and caps are not appropriate, would be best to invest a little into your college interview outfit. Both woman and men are advised to avoid putting too much jewelry, and not spray yourself with tons of perfume or after shave, keep it to a minimum, the interviewer will appreciate you not leaving your odor in the room…

Before you go out of your house make sure you brushed your teeth and combed your hair, that your shoes are polished and that you got some tissue with you in case you will need to wipe off anything, and if you use any face cream take it with you in case you need it.A few days before the college interview try and have all the clothes you plan to put on laid out, including your tie, belt, jacket, tissue, watch etc. check your clothes for wrinkles or spots, in case you need to give them to the dry cleaner before you go to the college interview.

On the day of your college interview lay your entire outfit, clothes and accessories, and get dressed early so you can have time to check yourself a few times, polish your shoes before you put on your clothes and do not over check yourself, just take a good close look two or three times, and walk out, think positively, and compliment yourself for dressing  to succeed.
